For the first photo, I chose to turn the tunnel photo into a simple, but hopefully striking, black & white image. I followed the procedure in the Kelby book, which started with converting to a grayscale image in Camera Raw and then proceeded with a series of steps to crank up the contrast & clarity. I worked with the whites/blacks, as well as the Highlights/Shadows to really bring out the detail, and then ended by cranking up the contrast in the Tone Curve panel.

For the Duotone image, I chose the boats and started by converting them in Camera Raw to grayscale. I chose slightly different shades of blues for both tones, but changed the saturation levels dramatically for the Highlights (light saturation) and Shadows (much deeper saturation). I find that using most other tones rendered either a muddy or weird look, but thought the blues worked nicely for this image.
